What

Insulated leather mittens with removable wool-terry liners, adjustable cuffs and wrist straps. The cork-and-brown version has a little orange trim. Windproof, but not waterproof.

Why

I’m a cold-hands person. My fingers are usually the first to remind me that a winter outing requires proper mittens.

Beautiful leather gloves have too often failed me on warmth. The technical alternatives in sports shops tend to be bulky and look as though they belong exclusively to a ski suit. I want warm hands without having to dress around them.

Hestra has been making gloves since 1936, and I love how that focus comes through in the Wakayama mittens. The quality, the look and the practical details work together. Finally, something that pleases more than just my fingers.
