Le Chevalier Bay is a small guesthouse directly on Anse Lazio, on the northwest coast of Praslin. The accommodation is simple and unpretentious. The beach is gorgeous.
Anse Lazio was my favourite beach in the Seychelles for a practical reason: we could really swim there. We had seen plenty of beautiful beaches, but found few that were good for swimming during our trip. After La Digue, we wanted to spend much more time in the water. Staying at Le Chevalier made that easy, with the room and restaurant close enough to come and go between swims.
Staying beside Anse Lazio
Anse Lazio becomes busy during the day. I would stay here for the chance to enjoy it early, before the day visitors arrive, and to return to the water without making another drive across Praslin.
Just inside the gate from the beach were outdoor showers. We could step straight off the sand and rinse off before returning to the room. On a beach with so few facilities, those showers were the envy of everyone around us.
On one of our days at Le Chevalier, we spent the morning at the beach, went out for supplies, then came straight back. The small coves among the rocks near the main beach were another favourite discovery, particularly towards evening.
Anse Lazio is an open bay, and the water deepens quickly. Check the conditions each day before swimming.
The rooms
The current room listings include standard double and triple rooms and larger family rooms. Air conditioning, a ceiling fan, Wi-Fi, a fridge or minibar and a private shower room are listed among the facilities. Views are described towards the garden, lake or hills, so a seaside address should not be taken to mean an ocean view from the bedroom.
Ask which room is available, what it overlooks and how much space the proposed arrangement leaves if an extra bed is needed. Confirm breakfast and any minimum-stay requirement with the quoted rate.
The common area also had a washing machine and a wide drying rack. With so much swimming, being able to wash and dry our things was a real advantage.
Breakfast and dinner
We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at Le Chevalier during our stay. Having the restaurant beside the guesthouse makes it easy to spend a day around Anse Lazio without going elsewhere for every meal.
The restaurant serves Creole cooking alongside sandwiches, burgers and salads. Its website currently lists breakfast from 8.30 to 10.30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Dinner needs a reservation and deposit before 4 p.m.; confirm that arrangement when you arrive, especially if you expect to return late from an outing.
Decide on dinner before going out for the afternoon, and arrange a return taxi in advance if you intend to eat elsewhere.
Getting there and around Praslin
Praslin is connected to Mahé by Air Seychelles flights and Cat Cocos ferries. From the airport or ferry jetty, arrange the onward road transfer to Anse Lazio with the guesthouse or a local operator. The island crossing and the drive to your room are separate parts of the journey.
We had a rental car during this part of the trip. I would take one again for exploring Praslin, visiting other beaches and going out for meals. There is parking at the property. Public buses are an option for travelling around the island, but the nearest stop to Anse Lazio leaves a walk over a hill; with luggage, I would arrange a transfer to the guesthouse itself.
Beyond the beach
We visited Vallée de Mai while on Praslin, and I recommend making time for it. This UNESCO-listed coco de mer palm forest is a welcome change from the coast, with walking paths that take you into the island’s green interior.
You can drive there and visit independently. For an organised option, this guided Vallée de Mai walk with return transfers includes admission; confirm collection from Le Chevalier when booking. It is a forest excursion, so you can leave the beach time for the place where you are already staying.
Le Chevalier is a choice I would make for Anse Lazio. Keep expectations of the accommodation simple, make the small arrangements for meals and transport, and give yourself time to enjoy the beach.
