Eschenbach is a German optical house founded in Nuremberg in 1913, with binoculars and specialist vision aids among its work. These are its optics in evening dress—not a decorative toy or the cheap hire glasses that make seeing the stage feel like work.
Why
An evening at the opera is rarely spontaneous for me. The performances I want to see can sell out before the rest of a journey has even taken shape. Often, the tickets come first.
Packing opera glasses alongside a proper dress and an evening bag sets the mood before I leave home. My ZEISS binoculars do the same for a safari; these belong to journeys to Vienna, Buenos Aires or New York. The same ritual, a different mood.
I prefer the black-and-silver La Scala to the more gilded alternatives. Most of my jewellery is in white metals, and I like my opera glasses to feel part of the evening, rather than an exception to it.
