A pair of wooden beach bats for frescobol, Rio’s bat-and-ball game. The Barra Classic bats are handmade in Brazil from upcycled pine, with neoprene grips and a water-resistant resin finish. The set comes with a carry sack.
Why
Every beach needs a little Rio. Even a beautiful stretch of sand can become rather dull if the only exercise is turning over on a towel. A pair of bats gives the afternoon something to do.
I bought these as a gift for my husband. Frescobol has one particularly civilised rule: you play together, keeping the ball in the air, rather than trying to beat each other. An excellent arrangement for a marital gift. The bats are Brazilian; the beach can be anywhere.
